  Birth: Jan. 12, 1828 Royken Buskerud County, Norway Death: Oct. 3, 1891.Bernt Johannesen was the son of Johannes Olsen and Karine Nilsen; husband to Thorine Hansen. Bernt was a farmer. Taken from a granddaughter's journal: Grandma Thorine and grandpa Bernt, aunt Jane and Einor set sail to America in October 1891. Grandpa took sick at sea and died (he couldn't urinate). Grandma told me this story one day. After he passed away they had to bury him as soon as possible, the sharks were following the ship. They wrapped him in sheets and then wrapped him in canvas securing it firmly with ropes, and then heavy weights were tied on. The captain told grandma to go to her room and not to look out. Tearfully she ran to her room to look out and see the corpse sliding down the plank and splash into the briny sea and sink to his immortal rest to the bottom of the sea.
